BIOENERGY

BIOMASS

Biomass is organic material that comes from plant or animal matter (Forestry, agricultural and municipal residues) that can be burned directly to produce heat and/or electricity or converted to produce liquid fuels. It is a low carbon and renewable source of fuel that can create new markets for waste products.

BIOGAS

Biogas is produced when organic matter biodegrades under anaerobic conditions (an absence of oxygen) to produce a mixture of gases – primarily methane – that can be used for electricity generation and/or heating technologies. Turning organic waste into a gas, diverting waste from landfills or waterways, can help cut carbon emissions, while creating value from otherwise wasted resources.
